Senior Electrical Engineering Manager

Primary Purpose

Provide technical and organizational leadership for the electrical engineering function supporting pipeline and midstream infrastructure (compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, and related facilities). Oversee electrical engineering activities across capital and sustaining projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable design, construction, and operation of electrical systems from concept through commissioning and operational handover.

Serve as the internal electrical subject matter expert and ensure alignment with company standards, industry codes, and operational requirements.


Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Governance

  • Act as the electrical engineering authority across all assigned assets and projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce company electrical engineering standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design reviews (30/60/90/IFC) to ensure quality, safety, operability, and maintainability.
  • Provide guidance on complex or non-standard electrical system designs.

Project Execution

  • Lead electrical scope execution for capital and sustaining projects from early development through commissioning.
  • Define engineering deliverables and technical requirements for external engineering firms and EPC contractors.
  • Review and approve:
    • Electrical one-lines, three-lines, and schematics
    • Equipment specifications (switchgear, MCCs, transformers, UPS/DC systems, VFDs)
    • Load lists, cable schedules, and grounding designs
    • Protective relay philosophies and coordination strategies
  • Partner with project management to manage scope, schedule, budget, and risk.

Power Systems & Compliance

  • Oversee development and review of electrical studies, including:
    • Load flow and short circuit analysis
    • Motor starting studies
    • Protective device coordination
    • Arc flash hazard analysis
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, API, and local codes).
  • Promote strong electrical safety practices across engineering, construction, and operations.

Operations & Reliability Support

  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to support:
    • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electrical system issues
    • Turnarounds, outages, and commissioning activities
    • System upgrades, retrofits, and lifecycle improvements
  • Drive improvements in asset reliability, standardization, and maintainability.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Interface with utilities, equipment vendors, and third-party contractors.
  • Support procurement efforts through technical bid evaluations and vendor selection.
  • Oversee factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and commissioning processes.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to electrical engineers and cross-functional team members.
  • Support resource planning, workload prioritization, and performance development.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Governance & QA/QC

  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance/quality control processes.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes and proper documentation control.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet operational readiness and handover requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Experience

  • 12+ years of electrical engineering experience in industrial facilities, such as midstream energy, oil & gas, power generation, or similar heavy industry.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting pipeline facilities, compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, or equivalent infrastructure.
  • Prior experience leading electrical engineering scopes or managing engineering teams/projects.
  • Strong background in:
    • Medium and low voltage power distribution systems
    • Motor control (VFDs, soft starters)
    • Switchgear, transformers, and industrial power systems
    • Hazardous location design and installation

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of NEC/NFPA, IEEE, and related industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings (one-lines, schematics, P&IDs).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver's license; ability to travel to project and operating sites as required.
  • Willingness to support commissioning and critical project milestones, including non-standard work hours if needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM).
  • Experience conducting or reviewing arc flash and coordination studies.
  • Background supporting commissioning, startup, and live system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with rotating equipment systems (compressors, pumps, turbines).
  • Experience developing engineering standards and supporting multi-site operations.
