Senior Engineer/Technical Lead - Wood Focus

As a Senior Technical Lead, you will serve as a subject matter expert for timber and hybrid structural systems, providing technical guidance across a diverse portfolio of commercial, civic, higher education, residential, and specialty projects. You'll collaborate with architects, contractors, developers, and fellow engineers to deliver innovative, efficient, and constructible designs while helping to elevate the technical capabilities of the broader team.
This is a fully remote position with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States.
What You'll Do
- Lead the structural design of mass timber, CLT, glulam, and hybrid building systems from concept through construction.
- Serve as the technical resource for timber engineering across multiple offices and project teams.
- Perform and review structural analyses, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
- Mentor engineers and project teams on timber design principles, detailing, constructability, and code compliance.
- Support project pursuits, client presentations, and technical proposals.
- Collaborate directly with architects and owners to develop creative and efficient structural solutions.
- Participate in quality control reviews and technical standard development.
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives related to timber engineering and sustainable design.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 8+ years of structural engineering experience.
- Strong experience designing timber, mass timber, CLT, glulam, and hybrid structural systems.
- Deep understanding of ASCE 7, IBC, NDS, and related design standards.
- Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Structural Engineer (SE) license.
- Experience with higher education, civic, commercial, mixed-use, or institutional projects.
- Experience coordinating directly with contractors and specialty timber fabricators.
- Existing industry relationships within the timber, AEC, or construction community.
- Passion for sustainable and low-carbon structural design.
