Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead the design and delivery of fire protection and life safety solutions across a diverse portfolio of commercial, government, institutional, healthcare, and mission-critical projects. This individual will collaborate with architects, developers, contractors, and clients to develop innovative code-compliant solutions while providing technical leadership, project management, and mentorship to junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide fire protection consulting and life safety engineering services for a variety of project types.
- Develop fire protection system designs, life safety strategies, and code-compliance solutions.
- Perform fire and life safety code reviews utilizing applicable building and fire codes, including IBC, IFC, and related standards.
- Design and coordinate fire suppression, fire alarm, detection, and smoke control systems.
- Develop performance-based fire engineering analyses, alternative compliance approaches, and fire hazard assessments.
- Present fire protection and life safety strategies to clients, code officials, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including planning, budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and project delivery.
- Support proposal development, business development initiatives, and client relationship management.
- Contribute to research, innovation, and the advancement of fire engineering best practices.
- Mentor and support junior fire protection engineers and designers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of fire protection engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; Fire Protection PE strongly desired.
- Strong knowledge of ICC codes, NFPA standards, and life safety regulations.
- Experience with fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, detection systems, smoke control systems, and egress analysis.
- Experience developing performance-based fire engineering solutions and code alternatives.
- Proven project management experience overseeing multiple projects and client relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization, leadership, and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, fire modeling software (FDS preferred), and Microsoft Office applications.
