Position Overview
A leading New England utility company is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead large-scale transmission and substation capital projects. This individual will be responsible for independently managing complex transmission infrastructure projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The role works closely with stakeholders across engineering, planning, construction, permitting, environmental, regulatory, legal, procurement, and finance functions to support the successful execution of critical grid modernization and expansion projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage large transmission and substation construction projects, including new transmission lines, substation expansions, and other major utility infrastructure investments.
- Lead all phases of project execution, including planning, engineering, siting and permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, energization, and project closeout.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, risk assessments, and change management processes.
- Coordinate cross-functional project teams and establish clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, permitting, and stakeholder requirements.
- Oversee contractor and consultant performance from bid development through project completion.
- Manage outage planning and coordination activities associated with transmission projects.
- Prepare and deliver project status updates, executive reporting, and management presentations.
- Support regulatory filings, permitting activities, and testimony preparation when required.
- Mentor junior project managers and provide leadership on departmental initiatives and process improvements.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred.
- Degrees in Business, Finance, Construction Management, or related fields will also be considered.
- Master's degree and formal Project Management training are a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant utility, energy, or infrastructure experience.
- At least 3 years of project management experience leading capital construction projects.
- Direct experience with transmission line and/or substation construction projects is highly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $147,000 - $164,000, depending on experience.
- Annual incentive opportunity.

Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to travel throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire as needed.
- Ability to visit active transmission and substation construction sites.
- Participation in emergency response and restoration efforts may be required, including occasional after-hours support.
