We are seeking a Technical Director of Electrical Engineering to provide strategic leadership, technical oversight, and project delivery support for a growing electrical engineering practice for an engineering consulting firm in Raleigh. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical lead and subject matter expert for electrical engineering projects across multiple market sectors.
- Provide oversight and quality control for the design of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, telecommunications, and fire alarm systems.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams through planning, design, coordination, and project execution.
- Act as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes.
- Mentor, develop, and coach electrical engineers and technical staff through hands-on leadership and professional development initiatives.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, and retaining top engineering talent to support continued growth.
- Evaluate team workload and resource allocation, balancing staff assignments across multiple projects and deadlines.
- Support project delivery by reviewing calculations, technical reports, construction documents, permit submissions, and engineering specifications.
- Participate in strategic planning efforts, helping identify opportunities for service expansion and operational improvement.
- Support business development initiatives through proposal preparation, client presentations, networking, and industry engagement.
- Collaborate with leadership and other technical disciplines to support integrated project delivery and company-wide growth initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in consulting engineering, building systems design, or related engineering environments.
- Strong expertise in building power distribution, lighting systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and fire alarm design.
- Proven experience leading complex engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated success in client relationship management and business development activities.
- Strong communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Ability to balance technical leadership, project delivery responsibilities, and strategic growth initiatives.
