Transportation Engineering Manager

Position Overview

Our client is an employee-owned engineering and consulting firm with a strong transportation presence throughout the Midwest, delivering highway, roadway, bridge, water, environmental, and infrastructure projects for public-sector clients. Known for its collaborative culture and technical excellence, the firm offers the opportunity to work on impactful MnDOT projects while taking on increasing leadership, project management, client development, and mentorship responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of transportation engineering projects, including highways, roadways, and local street improvements.
  • Manage projects for MnDOT and other public-sector clients, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Apply MnDOT design criteria, standards, and specifications throughout project development and delivery.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
  • Support business development efforts, including client relationship management, project tracking, marketing activities, and proposal preparation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of transportation engineering design experience.
  • Experience with highway design and local street design projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Minnesota.
  • Strong knowledge of MnDOT standards, design criteria, and project delivery processes.
  • Previous project management experience with MnDOT projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Experience mentoring and developing staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting business development and proposal efforts.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Established relationships within the Minnesota transportation market.
