Water Resources Coastal Lead

Our client is seeking a Water Resources Coastal Lead to provide technical leadership and project delivery support across a diverse portfolio of coastal and water resources projects. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a leading role in shaping coastal resilience, shoreline protection, flood risk management, and waterfront infrastructure projects while helping to grow and mentor a high-performing team.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will lead complex projects from planning and analysis through design and implementation, serving as a trusted advisor to clients and a key technical resource for project teams. This role offers significant autonomy, strong career progression opportunities, and involvement in impactful projects focused on protecting communities, infrastructure, and natural systems from coastal and climate-related challenges.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of coastal engineering and water resources projects, including shoreline stabilisation, coastal resilience, harbour and waterfront improvements, and nature-based solutions.
  • Provide technical oversight for coastal hydrodynamic modelling, wave analysis, sediment transport studies, flood risk assessments, and drainage evaluations.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams in the development of engineering solutions for coastal flooding, erosion mitigation, sea level rise adaptation, and climate resilience initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary client contact on key projects, building and maintaining strong relationships with municipal, state, federal, and private sector clients.
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, resource allocation, and quality assurance processes to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Lead permitting and regulatory coordination efforts with relevant agencies and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting technical development and fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation, client engagement, strategic planning, and project pursuits.
  • Support the growth and expansion of coastal engineering services through technical excellence, market leadership, and client-focused delivery.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Coastal, Ocean, or a related Engineering discipline, along with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in coastal engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related field. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required.

Strong experience with coastal processes, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, flood modelling, shoreline engineering, and resilience planning is essential. Familiarity with industry-standard modelling and design tools such as ADCIRC, CMS-Wave, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Delft3D, GIS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable. Experience navigating permitting and regulatory requirements associated with coastal and environmental projects will be beneficial.

Our client values strategic thinking, technical leadership, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to project delivery. This position offers the opportunity to join an established organisation with a strong project backlog, work on some of the region's most impactful coastal resilience initiatives, and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of a respected engineering practice.
