Water Resources/Municipal Engineer

Our client is a well-established consulting engineering firm that has built its reputation on delivering practical, client-focused solutions for municipal and private-sector clients across New Jersey. With a strong backlog of work and continued growth throughout the region, they are looking to add a Water Resources Engineer to support a wide range of stormwater, drainage, and municipal infrastructure projects.

Unlike larger consulting firms where engineers can become siloed into a single task or discipline, this role offers the opportunity to stay involved throughout the entire project lifecycle. You'll contribute to projects from initial planning and design through permitting, construction support, and client coordination, working directly alongside experienced engineers, project managers, and company ownership.

The team takes pride in approaching every project individually rather than relying on cookie-cutter solutions. Engineers are encouraged to think critically, develop creative approaches to complex challenges, and build meaningful relationships with both clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis of stormwater management systems for municipal and land development projects.
  • Preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, reports, drainage studies, and permitting documentation.
  • Support watershed, flooding, drainage, and stormwater improvement projects.
  • Assist with municipal engineering assignments, including capital improvement and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams.
  • Prepare construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Participate in field visits, site investigations, and construction phase services as required.

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of experience in water resources, stormwater, or municipal engineering.
  • Experience working on New Jersey projects and familiarity with NJ stormwater regulations.
  • EIT certification required; PE license or progression toward licensure strongly preferred.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater design, and drainage analysis.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and design tools.
  • Strong communication skills and an interest in developing client-facing responsibilities over time.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Opportunity to work on diverse projects rather than repetitive production work.
  • Exposure to cradle-to-grave project delivery and increased responsibility.
  • Direct access to leadership and company owners.
  • Flexible working hours that allow employees to balance professional and personal commitments.
  • Strong team-oriented culture with regular company events and social activities.
  • Long-term career growth opportunities, including a potential pathway toward ownership for high performers.
  • Stable business with a history of retaining employees through economic downturns.
  • Growing backlog of water resources and stormwater work throughout New Jersey.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer who enjoys hands-on project work, wants greater exposure to clients and project management, and prefers the culture and flexibility of a smaller, relationship-driven consulting firm
