BESS Project Manager

Position Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end execution and delivery of energy storage projects, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.

This role requires a highly organised professional with proven experience managing both domestic China and international energy projects. The successful candidate will coordinate cross-functional internal teams and external stakeholders, including customers, EPC contractors, suppliers, logistics partners, and regulatory authorities, to ensure seamless project execution throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Execution

• Lead full lifecycle project management from contract award through engineering, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, installation, commissioning, grid connection, customer acceptance, and warranty handover.

• Develop and maintain project schedules, resource plans, project budgets, risk registers, and milestone tracking systems.

• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality, safety, and performance standards.

• Coordinate internal functions including Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Procurement, Commercial, and Field Services.

Domestic & International Project Management

• Manage both China-based and overseas BESS project deliveries across multiple regions.

• Work closely with global customers, international EPC contractors, local partners, and overseas stakeholders to ensure successful execution of cross-border projects.

• Coordinate international logistics, customs clearance, import/export compliance, and equipment delivery activities.

• Support local project localisation requirements and ensure alignment with country-specific regulations and customer requirements.

Budget, Cost & Risk Management

• Monitor project costs and budgets, identifying and addressing deviations proactively.

• Manage change orders, contract variations, claims, and project documentation.

• Identify and mitigate project risks related to engineering, logistics, construction, safety, compliance, commercial exposure, and project performance.

• Drive corrective actions and recovery plans when project risks or delays arise.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout project execution.

• Lead regular project review meetings and provide updates on schedule, budget, risks, and overall project status.

• Manage relationships with customers, EPC contractors, utilities, consultants, government agencies, and third-party service providers.

• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through proactive communication and issue resolution.

Continuous Improvement

• Document lessons learned and support project management process improvements.

• Contribute to the development of project management standards, templates, and best practices.

• Support the growth and mentoring of junior project management personnel as the organisation scales.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.

Essential Experience

• Minimum 5 years of project management experience within BESS, renewable energy, power generation, transmission & distribution, or related infrastructure sectors.

• Proven track record delivering utility-scale, C&I, or microgrid energy storage projects from initiation through final commissioning.

• Must have experience managing overseas energy projects.

• Demonstrated success delivering international projects involving overseas customers, global stakeholders, international logistics, customs clearance, and cross-border project coordination.

• Strong understanding of EPC project execution, project controls, construction management, and grid connection processes.

• Experience managing multiple stakeholders across technical, commercial, operational, and executive levels.

• Strong risk management, cost control, and contract administration capabilities.

• Proficiency with project management and scheduling tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent.

Language Skills

• Fluent Mandarin Chinese is required.

• Professional English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in an international business environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP, IPMA, or equivalent project management certification.

• Previous experience within the energy storage, battery, renewable energy, or power infrastructure sectors.

• Experience supporting large-scale international project delivery across APAC, Europe, the Middle East, or North America.

• Familiarity with BESS system architecture including PCS, EMS, BMS, SCADA, and balance of system components.
