Renewable Energy Senior Technical Specialist
Overview
A well-established employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to support the growth of its Distributed Energy Resources (DER) practice. This position will serve as a technical lead for utility-scale and commercial renewable energy projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and distributed generation projects.
The role offers the opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams and contribute to projects ranging from commercial behind-the-meter systems to large-scale utility infrastructure developments.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead for renewable energy and distributed energy resource (DER) projects.
- Lead electrical system design efforts for solar, BESS, and distributed generation projects.
- Perform and review power system studies, including steady-state and dynamic analyses.
- Provide technical oversight for engineering deliverables, drawings, and system designs.
- Support projects interconnected at both the distribution and transmission levels.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, survey, and electrical engineering teams throughout project execution.
- Provide guidance on utility-scale projects up to 1 GW+ in size, including large-scale energy storage developments.
- Support commercial and industrial (C&I) projects ranging from approximately 100 kW to 10 MW.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical power systems engineering.
- Experience supporting renewable energy, distributed generation, utility interconnection, or power system projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Experience with power system modeling and analysis software such as:
- ETAP
- PSCAD
- PSS®E
- OpenDSS
- Strong technical communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-starter capable of working independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on technical quality and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and related industry standards.
- Experience with medium-voltage systems, substations, protection, and interconnection design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- NABCEP certification is a plus.
