Civil Office Lead

A well-established engineering consulting firm is expanding its presence in Kansas City and is looking for an experienced Civil Engineering Leader / Office Manager to take ownership of its new office and help build it into a significant regional operation.

This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial senior engineer who has strong relationships across the Kansas City market and wants the autonomy to build a team, develop clients, win work, and shape the direction of a growing office.

The successful candidate could come from a variety of civil infrastructure backgrounds, including:

  • Water / Wastewater
  • Municipal Engineering
  • Land Development
  • Transportation
  • Water Resources / Stormwater

The key is having 15+ years of experience, strong relationships within the Kansas City market, and the ability to combine technical credibility with business development and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the growth and development of the firm's Kansas City office.
  • Develop and execute a strategy for expanding the firm's presence across Kansas City and the surrounding region.
  • Leverage existing relationships with municipalities, developers, agencies, utilities, and other potential clients to generate new opportunities.
  • Lead business development, client engagement, proposal development, and pursuit strategy.
  • Identify, recruit, mentor, and develop engineers as the office grows.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients across the region.
  • Provide senior-level oversight and guidance on civil engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with leadership and technical teams across the wider organization to pursue and deliver work.
  • Take ownership of the office's long-term growth, culture, client base, and market reputation.

What They're Looking For

  • 15+ years of civil engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, ideally with the ability to practice in Missouri and/or Kansas.
  • Background in water/wastewater, municipal, land development, transportation, water resources, stormwater, or a related civil discipline.
  • Strong existing relationships and market knowledge across Kansas City and the surrounding region.
  • Demonstrated experience developing business, winning work, and building client relationships.
  • Previous experience leading engineers, project teams, departments, practices, or offices.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and turn relationships into new business.
  • Entrepreneurial personality and genuine interest in helping build and scale an office rather than simply managing an established team.

Why This Opportunity?

This isn't a role where you're stepping into an already-built office and maintaining the status quo.

You'll have the opportunity to put your own stamp on the Kansas City operation, influence which markets the office targets, build your own team, and play a major role in the firm's long-term growth in the region.

For someone currently operating as a Senior Project Manager, Practice Leader, Department Manager, Business Development Leader, or Office Manager who wants greater autonomy and a genuine opportunity to build something, this could be a very exciting next step.

Interested?

If you're an established civil engineering leader in the Kansas City market and would be interested in discussing the opportunity confidentially, I'd be happy to share more information.
