Compensation: $140K- $170K + bonus

About the Opportunity

A nationally recognized engineering and environmental consulting firm is seeking a Practice Leader - Civil Engineering to drive the growth of its Syracuse-area operations. This individual will play a key role in expanding regional business, leading multidisciplinary teams, and strengthening the firm's presence throughout Central New York.

The role is focused on business development, client management, staff leadership, and the delivery of high-quality land development projects across a variety of market sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive business development efforts by cultivating new client relationships and expanding existing accounts.
• Partner with regional leadership to develop strategic growth initiatives and maintain strong staff utilization.
• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary civil engineering team while supporting office growth.
• Manage and oversee all aspects of site and land development projects, including site layout, grading, drainage, utility infrastructure, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control.
• Direct projects from initial concept through permitting, design, and construction support.
• Design and permit residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, mixed-use, and warehouse/distribution developments.
• Collaborate with environmental, geotechnical, survey, and other technical disciplines to deliver integrated project solutions.
• Support proposal development, client presentations, and strategic planning efforts.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 15+ years of progressive site/civil engineering experience within land development.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York, or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
• Proven experience leading teams, managing projects, and growing client relationships.
• Strong background in land development design, permitting, and project delivery.
• Experience with grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and roadway design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Strong involvement in industry organizations and professional networks.
• Experience preparing technical reports, proposals, and client presentations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
• Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across teams.
• Willingness to travel as needed for client meetings and project assignments.
