A growing environmental consulting firm is seeking an Environmental Department Lead to oversee and expand its Phase II Environmental Site Assessment and subsurface investigation practice in the Chicago area.
This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced environmental professional who combines strong technical knowledge with project management, client development, and team leadership skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving department growth, mentoring staff, and managing complex environmental investigation and remediation projects throughout the region.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the environmental investigation and remediation practice
- Oversee Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, site investigations, and remediation projects
- Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Provide technical oversight for soil, groundwater, and vapor investigations
- Review technical reports, risk evaluations, and remediation recommendations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and regulatory stakeholders
- Mentor project managers, scientists, geologists, and engineers
- Support business development efforts and help expand client relationships
- Coordinate with developers, attorneys, lenders, municipalities, and regulatory agencies
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or related discipline
- 10+ years of environmental consulting experience
- Extensive experience managing Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and site investigation projects
- Strong understanding of Illinois environmental regulations and remediation programs
- Experience overseeing soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion investigations
- Proven leadership and project management experience
- Strong client-facing communication and business development skills
- Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
