Position Overview

We are seeking a Director of Development to help establish and grow our presence in the Midland, Texas market. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who can build business, lead teams, strengthen client relationships, and expand operations across the energy sector.

Candidates must have a hydrocarbon-related background directly supporting oil & gas, natural gas, or power generation projects. Experience solely focused on land development, renewables, transportation, water/wastewater, or general civil infrastructure will not be considered. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of how hydrocarbon and power generation projects are developed, designed, permitted, executed, and delivered.

This role is suited for a proven leader who can drive growth, oversee project execution, mentor teams, and serve as a strategic partner to both clients and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

Business Development & Market Growth

  • Establish and grow the firm's presence in the Midland and West Texas market.
  • Identify, develop, and win new business opportunities within the oil & gas, natural gas, pipeline, midstream, facilities, and power generation sectors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with operators, developers, utilities, EPC contractors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead proposals, presentations, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies to expand market share and service offerings.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams across surveying, engineering, design, and project delivery.
  • Partner with executive leadership on growth initiatives, staffing plans, and operational strategy.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, collaboration, and client service.
  • Support recruiting and team-building efforts as the practice continues to grow.

Project Oversight & Execution

  • Oversee successful delivery of projects while ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and client expectations are met.
  • Support projects involving oil & gas production facilities, natural gas infrastructure, pipelines, compressor stations, meter stations, processing facilities, storage assets, and power generation facilities.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to drive efficient project execution.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement solutions to maintain project success.

Technical & Operational Leadership

  • Provide senior-level guidance on energy infrastructure project execution from either a surveying or engineering perspective.
  • Serve as a bridge between technical teams, operations, and client stakeholders.
  • Apply practical understanding of field execution, engineering, design, and construction activities within hydrocarbon and power generation projects.
  • Support quality assurance, technical reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Surveying, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience supporting hydrocarbon-related projects tied directly to oil & gas, natural gas, pipeline, midstream, gas processing, facilities, or power generation.
  • Demonstrated experience working with owner/operators, EPC firms, midstream companies, utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), or other organizations involved in hydrocarbon or power generation infrastructure.
  • Proven leadership experience involving team development, project oversight, client management, and business development.
  • Strong understanding of project execution within oil & gas, natural gas, pipeline, facilities, or power generation environments.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships in a competitive market.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Familiarity with the Midland / West Texas market strongly preferred.
  • Professional licensure such as PE, RPLS, or similar credentials is highly valued.
