Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations to oversee the day-to-day operations and continued growth of a land surveying office in Pensacola, Florida.

This individual will take ownership of project delivery, scheduling, budgets, client relationships, staffing, and overall office performance. The ideal candidate has a strong background within the land surveying industry and has progressed beyond individual project management into broader operational and leadership responsibilities.

This is an opportunity for an experienced surveying professional to play a key role in the direction and growth of an established operation while maintaining strong relationships with both employees and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Pensacola surveying office.
  • Manage project schedules, workloads, deadlines, and resource allocation across multiple surveying teams.
  • Monitor project budgets, profitability, utilization, and overall financial performance.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients while supporting new business development.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for key clients and help resolve project or contractual issues.
  • Oversee staffing needs, hiring, employee development, and team performance.
  • Coordinate field and office resources to maintain efficient project delivery.
  • Help establish and improve internal processes, workflows, and operational standards.
  • Review project pipelines and backlog to anticipate future staffing and resource needs.
  • Support proposals, scopes of work, fee development, and contract negotiations.
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and long-term growth of the operation.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and client-focused office culture.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience within land surveying, geomatics, or a closely related field.
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects, teams, or an office/department.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgets, utilization, and profitability.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing client relationships.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • Experience overseeing both field and office surveying operations preferred.
  • Comfortable managing competing deadlines and allocating resources across multiple projects.
  • Experience with proposals, contracts, fee development, and business development is highly desirable.
  • Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) license preferred, but not necessarily required depending on operational and leadership experience.

Ideal Background

The ideal candidate is currently operating at the Operations Manager, Survey Manager, Department Manager, Regional Manager, Office Manager, or Director level within a land surveying or civil engineering firm.

They should understand the technical side of surveying, but their primary strength should be running the business: keeping teams busy, projects profitable, clients happy, schedules organized, and the office moving in the right direction.
