About the Opportunity

A leading mechanical contractor in the Charlotte market is seeking an experienced HVAC & Plumbing Estimator to join its growing preconstruction team. This individual will play a key role in developing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, healthcare, industrial, institutional, and mission-critical projects throughout the Southeast.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional looking to work on high-profile projects while collaborating with project managers, operations teams, vendors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed HVAC and plumbing estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and project documents to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for piping, plumbing, HVAC, and related mechanical systems.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
  • Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving solutions.
  • Collaborate with operations, project management, and business development teams during the bidding process.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project turnover meetings.
  • Maintain estimating databases, labor productivity metrics, and historical cost information.
  • Assist in developing budgets, conceptual estimates, and design-build proposals.
  • Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of estimating experience within mechanical construction.
  • Experience estimating HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Strong understanding of commercial mechanical systems and installation methods.
  • Experience with estimating software and digital takeoff platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Experience

  • Background working for a mechanical contractor.
  • Experience estimating healthcare, higher education, industrial, manufacturing, data center, life sciences, or large commercial projects.
  • Exposure to design-build and negotiated projects.
  • Knowledge of local Charlotte and Southeast construction markets.
