Field Manager - Industrial Hygiene & Environmental Services

Compensation: $110,000 - $135,000

A well-established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Field Manager to support and mentor field staff across a diverse portfolio of industrial hygiene, asbestos, lead, hazardous materials, and environmental compliance projects throughout Southern California.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced field professional who enjoys leading from the front, coaching junior staff, and serving as the technical resource teams rely on in the field. The role is designed for someone who wants to maintain strong technical involvement while taking on greater leadership responsibilities, without moving into a purely administrative or managerial position.

Position Overview

The Field Supervisor serves as a hands-on leader supporting technicians, junior consultants, apprentices, and interns. This individual ensures field teams are prepared for success, maintains quality standards, conducts field audits, provides technical guidance, and delivers ongoing training and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations & Readiness

• Ensure field personnel have appropriate PPE, equipment, and materials prior to project mobilization.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment of supplies and equipment.
• Maintain calibration, organization, and readiness of monitoring and sampling instruments.

Field Leadership

• Conduct regular visits to active project sites.
• Serve as a technical resource for field personnel.
• Provide real-time support on project execution, regulatory questions, and field decisions.
• Adapt leadership style and support based on project and team needs.

Quality Assurance

• Review field activities for compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Evaluate sampling techniques, documentation, chain-of-custody procedures, field notes, and reporting practices.
• Conduct field audits and performance assessments.
• Identify trends, deficiencies, or training opportunities and implement corrective actions.

Training & Mentorship

• Provide consistent coaching and performance feedback.
• Train new and developing staff on technical procedures, field methodology, safety requirements, and professional conduct.
• Support employees pursuing industry certifications and professional development goals.
• Foster a positive learning environment that encourages growth and accountability.

Technical Leadership

• Act as a subject matter expert on industrial hygiene and hazardous materials projects.
• Stay informed regarding evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Provide technical guidance to field personnel and project teams.
• Support client interactions related to field operations and technical matters.

Safety Leadership

• Demonstrate and promote safe work practices at all times.
• Identify and address unsafe conditions or behaviors in the field.
• Reinforce proper use of PPE and exposure-control measures.
• Help maintain a strong, proactive safety culture.

Technical Knowledge & Regulatory Experience

Candidates should possess working knowledge of applicable California and federal regulations, including:

• EPA NESHAP requirements
• AHERA regulations
• Cal/OSHA asbestos standards
• Cal/OSHA lead standards
• Federal OSHA construction and general industry standards
• California air district notification requirements
• Industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessment methodologies
• Hazardous materials and environmental compliance programs

Qualifications

Required

• California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST).
• Lead Inspector/Assessor certification.
• 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Mold assessment credential (CMI, CMC, CIEC, or equivalent) or relevant moisture-intrusion experience.
• Minimum 3 years of field experience in industrial hygiene, asbestos, lead, hazardous materials, or environmental consulting.
• Valid California driver's license and ability to travel throughout Southern California.
• Strong communication, leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or actively pursuing certification.
• Prior experience training or supervising junior staff.
• OSHA 30-Hour certification.
• Experience working across multiple California regulatory jurisdictions.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
