Industrial / DC Control Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of advanced control systems for power generation and renewable energy equipment.

The engineer will work on a major Woodward project, developing the control logic that determines how engines, generators, and associated power systems operate and respond under different conditions.

This is a hands-on controls position combining PLC programming, SCADA integration, control panel design, networking, testing, and field commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and program control systems for engines, generators, and power-generation equipment

  • Program PLC/DDC systems using ladder logic and structured text

  • Configure and integrate SCADA and HMI systems

  • Develop control sequences and logic governing equipment operation and response

  • Integrate PLCs, controllers, instrumentation, and associated electrical equipment

  • Design and review control panels using AutoCAD and/or EPLAN

  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks

  • Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) and system validation

  • Support field installation, start-up, testing, and commissioning

  • Troubleshoot controls, communications, and system-integration issues

  • Work closely with engineering, project, and field teams throughout the project lifecycle

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Controls Engineering, or similar

  • 2+ years of relevant controls experience

  • Master's degree candidates may be considered with limited professional experience

  • PLC and/or DDC programming experience

  • Strong understanding of ladder logic and structured text

  • SCADA/HMI configuration and integration experience

  • Industrial networking experience

  • Control panel design experience

  • Experience with factory and/or field testing and commissioning

  • Omron

  • Johnson Controls FX

  • Siemens Desigo

SCADA / HMI

  • Ignition

  • AVEVA / Wonderware

  • GE iFIX

  • Siemens WinCC

  • Rockwell FactoryTalk

  • Citect

  • VTScada

  • PI System

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP)

  • Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA)

  • Engineer in Training (EIT)

  • Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) certification

  • PLC and/or SCADA manufacturer certifications

  • Previous experience with engine, generator, power-generation, or renewable-energy controls

Why This Role?

This isn't simply a standard PLC role controlling production machinery. The engineer will be developing the control logic behind engines and generators, determining how critical power-generation equipment behaves, responds, and operates within the wider energy system.

It's a strong opportunity for a controls engineer looking to move further into power generation, energy systems, and advanced automation projects.
