Compensation:
- Project Manager II: $94,000 - $135,000 base salary
- Potential flexibility above the posted range for highly qualified candidates
- Project Manager I level may be considered for candidates with less experience

Position Overview
Our client, a well-established Texas electric utility, is seeking an Interconnection Project Manager to oversee generation and large load interconnection projects across its transmission and distribution system.
This individual will serve as the utility's primary representative throughout the interconnection process, managing projects from initial customer request through study completion, commercial agreement execution, and handoff to implementation teams. The role requires extensive coordination with developers, large commercial customers, ERCOT, regulatory agencies, and internal utility stakeholders.
The Interconnection Project Manager will play a critical role in supporting Texas' continued growth in load demand, transmission expansion, renewable generation development, and overall grid modernization efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Interconnection Project Leadership
- Manage generation and large load interconnection requests from application through agreement execution.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the interconnection lifecycle.
- Coordinate project activities among internal engineering, planning, operations, legal, regulatory, and commercial teams.
- Guide customers through utility interconnection requirements, studies, schedules, and milestones.
- Ensure projects advance efficiently through the development process and are successfully transitioned to execution teams.
Interconnection Agreements & Regulatory Processes
- Lead the development, negotiation, and execution of interconnection and facilities agreements.
- Support Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA) execution and associated contractual processes.
- Coordinate technical, legal, and regulatory reviews required for agreement approval.
- Support Certificate of Convenience & Necessity (CCN) modifications and related regulatory filings when applicable.
- Ensure compliance with utility policies, engineering standards, and industry regulations.
Project Management
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and risk registers.
- Coordinate stakeholder activities to support timely completion of interconnection studies and agreements.
- Monitor project progress and escalate issues impacting schedule, scope, or customer commitments.
- Manage customer expectations while balancing internal resource requirements.
- Prepare project updates and communicate status to leadership and stakeholders.
Technical Coordination
- Partner with transmission planning, distribution engineering, operations, protection and controls, and other technical groups.
- Coordinate engineering evaluations and system impact studies associated with new interconnections.
- Support transmission expansion and infrastructure planning efforts tied to customer growth and generation development.
- Ensure proposed interconnections meet utility engineering and operational requirements.
Compliance & External Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate interactions with ERCOT and other regulatory entities throughout the interconnection process.
- Ensure project compliance with ERCOT Nodal Protocols, applicable PUCT requirements, and NERC reliability standards.
- Monitor regulatory and market developments that may impact interconnection activities.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, developers, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of utility interconnection, transmission, distribution, or related engineering experience.
- Experience supporting generation and/or large load interconnection projects.
- Familiarity with utility customer engagement and stakeholder management.
- Understanding of utility operations, transmission systems, or distribution systems.
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Approximately 5+ years of interconnection engineering experience.
- Experience managing generation or load interconnection requests within the ERCOT market.
- Experience preparing or executing SGIA documentation and agreements.
- Familiarity with Texas CCN processes and utility regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of transmission planning, transmission expansion, and utility infrastructure development.
- Experience overseeing project schedules, budgets, milestones, and stakeholder communications.
- EIT or PE certification is a plus.
