Live Event Project Manager - LA, California
Live Event Project Manager - Broadcast Productions
Location: California (Los Angeles or San Francisco Bay Area preferred) · On-site / Hybrid · Travel required
About the Role
We're hiring a Live Event Project Manager with deep broadcast production experience to lead the planning and on-site execution of high-profile live events, hybrid streams, and broadcast-grade activations across California and beyond. You'll be the operational engine behind shows that blend the energy of live audiences with the precision of broadcast television - corporate keynotes, brand launches, award shows, sports activations, fan festivals, and streamed flagship events.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who has lived in both worlds: the controlled-chaos of a live event floor and the structured discipline of a broadcast control room.
What You'll Do
- Own the full project lifecycle - from creative brief and budget build through pre-production, load-in, show days, strike, and post-event reconciliation.
- Lead cross-functional crews including producers, technical directors, broadcast engineers, camera ops, audio, lighting, LED/video, scenic, and creative.
- Manage broadcast-specific workflows - multi-cam packages, switchers, comms, IMAG, live streaming, satellite/fiber transmission, and graphics/playback integration.
- Run client communications - be the trusted day-to-day point of contact for marketing leads, agency producers, and executive stakeholders.
- Build and manage budgets from $250K to $5M+, tracking burn against scope and flagging variances early.
- Oversee vendor and venue logistics - RFPs, contracts, freight, rigging plots, power, internet, permits, union labor, and site surveys across CA venues (convention centers, stadiums, studios, hotels, outdoor builds).
- Drive production schedules, run-of-show docs, and crew call sheets with broadcast-level accuracy.
- Travel to client sites and event locations (~30-50%), with a strong base in California.
What You Bring
- 5-8+ years of project management experience in live events, experiential production, or broadcast - ideally a mix of all three.
- Proven broadcast credentials: hands-on experience with multi-cam shoots, live streaming platforms (YouTube Live, LinkedIn Live, custom CDNs), broadcast switchers (Ross, Grass Valley, Blackmagic), comms (RTS, Clear-Com), and IMAG/projection mapping.
- Track record managing complex, high-budget productions for Fortune 500 clients, agencies, or major brand/entertainment IP.
- Comfortable on a show floor - you can read a rigging plot, talk to a gaffer about par cans, and brief an EP on a delivery slip in the same hour.
- Strong commercial sense - you protect margin without sacrificing creative quality.
- California venue + vendor network - existing relationships with LA/SF/SD venues, IATSE locals, AV rental houses, and freelance broadcast talent is a major plus.
- Tech fluency: Microsoft 365, Smartsheet/Monday/Asana, AutoCAD or Vectorworks (read-level), and broadcast-adjacent tools.
- Calm under pressure, exceptional communicator, and someone teams want on the truck with them.
