LSIT Technician / Survey Crew Chief
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Survey Technician to support both field and office surveying operations on a variety of land development, transportation, utility, commercial, and residential projects. This individual will assist with data collection, survey calculations, drafting, and the preparation of survey deliverables while working closely with Project Surveyors, Party Chiefs, and Professional Land Surveyors.
Responsibilities
- Assist with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, as-built, and construction surveys.
- Process and organize field data collected using GPS, total stations, and laser scanning equipment.
- Prepare survey plats, maps, exhibits, legal descriptions, and survey reports.
- Draft survey deliverables using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software.
- Conduct deed research, record research, and coordinate with public agencies when necessary.
- Review survey data for completeness and accuracy.
- Support construction stakeout and quality control efforts.
- Maintain project files and survey records.
- Coordinate with field crews, project managers, engineers, and clients.
- Assist with project scheduling and meeting project deadlines.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of surveying experience preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of land surveying principles, calculations, and field-to-finish workflows.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Familiarity with GPS, robotic total stations, and survey data collection procedures.
- Ability to read plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and engineering plans.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- LSIT certification or actively pursuing licensure.
- Experience with Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or Leica software.
- Experience supporting land development, transportation, utility, or construction projects.
- Drone, laser scanning, or reality capture experience.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing daily field operations, ensuring data accuracy, maintaining survey equipment, and coordinating with project managers, clients, contractors, and office staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee daily field survey operations.
- Direct and mentor survey crew members while promoting a safe work environment.
- Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, as-built, and construction stakeout surveys.
- Operate and maintain GPS, robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors.
- Collect, verify, and document field data accurately and efficiently.
- Interpret construction plans, plats, deeds, easements, and engineering drawings.
- Coordinate field activities with project managers, contractors, and clients.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within quality standards.
- Troubleshoot field issues and make sound decisions to keep projects moving.
- Maintain company vehicles and survey equipment.
- Complete daily field reports, sketches, and survey documentation.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of land surveying experience, including experience as a Party Chief.
- Strong understanding of boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
- Experience with GPS and robotic total station equipment (Trimble, Leica, or Topcon preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret plats, deeds, construction plans, and legal descriptions.
- Proficiency with survey data collection software and field workflows.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- LSIT certification or pursuit of Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure.
- Experience with DOT, transportation, utility, or land development projects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and survey processing workflows.
- Experience training and developing junior field staff.
