Professional Land Surveyor / Survey Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and oversee survey operations from our Roseville office. This is a senior-level opportunity for a licensed survey professional who combines strong technical surveying expertise with project management, staff leadership, client engagement, and business development capabilities.

The successful candidate will oversee surveyors and survey technicians, manage projects from scoping through final delivery, provide technical guidance, maintain quality standards, and support the continued growth of the survey practice.

Key Responsibilities

Survey Leadership & Team Management

• Oversee work production and quality control for surveyors and survey technicians within the Roseville office.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to survey staff.
• Support staff in developing practical solutions to complex technical surveying challenges.
• Manage surveying functions including drafting, field survey, survey support, document control, and related activities.
• Refine and improve procedures and workflows within the survey department.
• Maintain strong working relationships with team members, subconsultants, vendors, clients, and other project stakeholders.

Project & Technical Management

• Manage survey projects to ensure work is completed accurately, thoroughly, on schedule, and within budget.
• Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, project numbers, and client documentation.
• Ensure survey deliverables and documentation packages are complete and meet required QA/QC standards.
• Perform in-office survey and mapping calculations, plan preparation, and construction staking calculations and cut sheets.
• Complete technical survey and mapping work using industry-standard software, including Autodesk Civil 3D.
• As needed, provide field surveying support on:
  • Boundary surveys
  • Topographic surveys
  • ALTA surveys
  • Construction staking
• Maintain current knowledge of modern surveying methods, equipment, software, and technologies.

Proposals & Business Development

• Develop technical approaches, scopes of work, and narratives for proposals and pursuits.
• Prepare project cost and fee estimates.
• Support pursuits as both a prime consultant and subconsultant.
• Identify opportunities within existing client contracts while helping secure new client relationships and projects.
• Serve as a liaison with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Clearly communicate project expectations, schedules, and deliverables to internal teams and subconsultants.
• Travel as required for field visits, survey activities, client meetings, and agency coordination.

Qualifications

Required

• Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
• 8+ years of experience in land surveying, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of both field and office surveying operations.
• Expertise with survey equipment, including configuration, troubleshooting, procurement, and maintenance of equipment such as:
  • Total stations
  • GPS/GNSS systems
  • Drones/UAS
  • Data collectors
• Strong knowledge of surveying and mapping software, including GIS/GPS applications, aerial and non-aerial mapping, and data collection systems.
• Proficiency with Auto-CAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with PDF/document management software such as Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
