Project Manager - Mechanical (Washington DC)
Salary: $130,000 - $170,000 DOE, plus performance bonus and car allowance Location: Washington DC
The Company
A union mechanical contractor operating across the DMV - DC, Northern Virginia and PG County. They self-perform plumbing and mechanical piping, subbing out sheet metal and controls, and deliver commercial, government, higher education and law firm tenant work. Recent and current projects include a local government building (a $24M, four-year multi-system build) and an Arena, with backlog heading toward next Winter. They operate their own fab shop and warehouse and are actively growing.
The Role:
You'll take full ownership of mechanical projects from buyout through to closeout, running your own work with genuine autonomy. This is a small, low-turnover team of 7 PMs, 2 APMs and 2 Project Executives, so you'll have direct access to leadership and visible impact from day one.
Responsibilities:
- Manage mechanical projects end to end - HVAC, plumbing and piping scopes
- Handle submittals, buyouts and procurement
- Lead GC negotiations and manage subcontractor performance
- Own project budgets, schedules and financial reporting
- Build and maintain GC and client relationships to support repeat business
- Coordinate with field and operations teams to keep work on programme
What We're Looking For:
- 4-5+ years running mechanical projects as a PM
- Background with a mechanical subcontractor or general contractor
- Strong understanding of submittals, buyouts, GC negotiations and subcontractor management
- Self-motivated and genuinely hands-on with the work - this is not an environment with micromanagement
- Degree is a nice-to-have; field-progressed candidates are equally welcome. Experience counts above everything
