Remediation Department Manager

Location: Chicago Area (Hybrid Flexibility Available)
Compensation: $140,000-$360,000+ Base Salary + Bonus + Ownership Benefits
Travel: Approximately 25%

A nationally recognized, employee-owned consulting and engineering firm is seeking a Remediation Department Manager to lead and grow its remediation practice throughout the Great Lakes region.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced remediation leader to take ownership of a well-established business line, drive strategic growth initiatives, develop key client relationships, and mentor the next generation of environmental leaders. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of remediation expertise, business development success, operational leadership, and team-building capabilities.

Responsibilities

Practice Leadership & Growth

  • Lead the strategic direction and continued growth of the remediation practice across multiple Midwest markets

  • Develop and execute business plans, market growth initiatives, and client expansion strategies

  • Identify emerging opportunities and guide pursuit and capture efforts for key projects and programs

  • Support long-term business planning, staffing strategies, and revenue growth objectives

Client Development & Business Development

  • Serve as a senior client relationship manager for key remediation clients

  • Build and strengthen relationships with industrial, energy, manufacturing, commercial, and public-sector clients

  • Lead major pursuits, proposal efforts, contract negotiations, and project capture strategies

  • Support regional and national business development initiatives

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee complex site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance projects

  • Provide guidance on remediation strategy, risk management, regulatory closure, and technical execution

  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, and in accordance with quality standards

  • Support project managers on technical, operational, and financial matters

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop project managers, engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists

  • Foster a culture focused on collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and professional growth

  • Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives

  • Promote employee engagement and retention

Operational & Financial Management

  • Manage business line performance, including revenue, profitability, utilization, backlog, and staffing

  • Monitor project performance and support risk management initiatives

  • Drive operational efficiency while maintaining exceptional client service

  • Oversee resource planning and business line financial performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline

  • 10+ years of environmental consulting and remediation experience

  • Previous leadership experience managing teams, departments, or business lines

  • Strong background in site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance programs

  • Proven success in business development and client relationship management

  • Experience managing large project portfolios, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills

  • Professional licensure (PE, PG, CHMM, or equivalent) preferred
