A well established Texas-based heavy civil and utility contractor is looking to add a Senior Estimator / Lead Estimator to their growing team. With more than $200M in backlog and a strong pipeline of upcoming work, this role offers the opportunity to step into a leadership position and play a key role in shaping the future of the estimating department.
The company is actively pursuing some of the largest infrastructure projects in Texas while maintaining the flexibility to pursue smaller strategic opportunities that keep crews working and revenue flowing. They are seeking an experienced estimator who can not only build competitive estimates but also develop winning bid strategies, mentor junior estimators, and help drive overall business growth.
What You'll Be Working On
- Water and wastewater treatment plant projects
- Underground utility infrastructure
- Heavy civil construction projects
- Highway and roadway improvements
- Airport infrastructure projects
- TXDOT work
- Projects ranging from $2M to $100M+
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complete estimates from pursuit through submission
- Develop bid strategies that position the company to win work
- Review plans, specifications, schedules, and contract documents
- Coordinate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Identify project risks and opportunities during preconstruction
- Present estimate reviews to executive leadership
- Mentor and develop junior estimators
- Support business development and pursuit planning efforts
- Collaborate with operations teams to ensure successful project handoff
What They're Looking For
- 7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, water/wastewater, transportation, or utility construction
- Proven experience leading estimates on complex infrastructure projects
- Ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously
- Strong leadership and team-building skills
- Experience mentoring junior estimators
- A strategic mindset with the ability to identify winning approaches, not just prepare takeoffs
- Comfortable estimating both large flagship projects and smaller strategic opportunities
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
