About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm seeking a Senior Transportation Project Manager to play a key leadership role in the growth and delivery of transportation projects throughout the Seattle region and broader Washington market. This position offers the opportunity to lead complex roadway and transportation projects, develop client relationships, mentor engineering staff, and help drive strategic growth initiatives.
Position Summary
The Senior Transportation Project Manager will oversee the successful delivery of transportation and civil engineering projects from pursuit through completion. Responsibilities include project management, technical oversight, client engagement, financial management, team leadership, and business development support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transportation design, proven project management experience, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams while maintaining exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
- Lead transportation and civil engineering projects from planning and design through final delivery.
- Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing, quality control, and profitability.
- Coordinate internal teams and subconsultants to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met.
- Negotiate and manage contract modifications and change orders.
- Monitor project performance and provide regular status updates to leadership and clients.
- Utilize project management tools and systems to track project success and financial performance.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership on complex roadway and transportation design projects.
- Develop practical engineering solutions that meet client objectives and industry standards.
- Ensure project deliverables meet quality, regulatory, and professional engineering requirements.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineering staff.
- Support technical reviews and guide project teams through challenging design issues.
Client & Business Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with public agency and municipal clients throughout Washington.
- Support business development efforts through networking, industry involvement, and client engagement.
- Identify upcoming project opportunities and participate in strategic pursuit planning.
- Assist with proposal development, scope preparation, fee estimates, and interview presentations.
- Represent the firm within industry organizations and professional associations.
Team Leadership
- Help guide the growth and direction of the transportation practice.
- Assist with resource planning and staffing decisions.
- Foster a collaborative team environment focused on professional growth and project excellence.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering and project management staff.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferably in Washington or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
- 15+ years of transportation or civil engineering consulting experience.
- Demonstrated success managing transportation design projects through all phases of delivery.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong client relationship management and business development skills.
- Proven experience mentoring and leading engineering staff.
Preferred
- Experience delivering roadway, highway, municipal transportation, or multimodal infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with alternative delivery methods such as Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, or CM/GC.
- Existing relationships with transportation agencies, municipalities, and public-sector clients within Washington.
- Experience leading project pursuits, proposal development, and client presentations.
