The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Protective Design Engineer to join their dedicated protective design team in Baltimore. This senior-level position offers the opportunity to lead the development and integration of protective design strategies across a wide variety of projects, including anti-terrorism and force protection measures, perimeter security systems, blast and ballistic resistance design, vehicle access control solutions and electronic security systems. The successful candidate will take ownership of technical delivery, provide quality assurance oversight, engage directly with clients and stakeholders, and play a key role in mentoring colleagues and advancing protective design expertise across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret security and protective design criteria, standards and regulations.
- Develop protective design strategies for planning studies and multidisciplinary design projects.
- Collaborate with client security personnel to refine and implement project-specific solutions.
- Coordinate closely with internal engineering, architectural and design teams.
- Prepare and review construction drawings, specifications and supporting documentation.
- Ensure all deliverables meet applicable project requirements, standards and quality expectations.
- Provide technical oversight and QA/QC review of protective design reports and construction documents.
- Support proposal development, scope definition and technical input for new opportunities.
- Deliver technical presentations and executive-level briefings on protective design solutions.
- Lead internal training initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on protective design principles and best practices.
- Support project delivery throughout planning, design and construction phases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline.
- Chartered or licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
- Minimum 16 years of experience in protective design, security engineering or related fields.
- Extensive experience applying security and protective design criteria, including government and defence-related standards.
- Proven experience delivering concept studies, design documentation and construction phase services.
- Strong understanding of anti-terrorism and force protection, perimeter security, blast resistance and physical security design.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and project management capabilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to obtain a high-level security clearance.
- Experience with Revit and AutoCAD is desirable.
- ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) or related certification would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring and client-facing experience.
