Overview
Key Responsibilities
Development & Engineering
- Lead preliminary engineering efforts for collection systems, substations, transmission lines, and associated civil/electrical infrastructure.
- Coordinate technical studies including geotechnical investigations, hydrology, LiDAR, and power system analyses.
- Serve as a technical liaison between development, permitting, interconnection, procurement, estimating, and project management teams.
- Manage external engineering consultants and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Support technology evaluations, equipment selection, and cost-estimating efforts.
- Provide constructability feedback through site visits and development reviews.
Design & Project Execution
- Support EPC procurement efforts, including RFP development and contractor evaluations.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables through all design milestones from conceptual design through Issued-for-Construction (IFC).
- Collaborate with utilities, system operators, offtakers, EPC firms, and internal stakeholders.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary design reviews with internal technical experts.
- Review civil, structural, and electrical design packages to ensure quality and compliance.
- Manage engineering RFIs and technical issue resolution throughout project execution.
Construction Support
- Partner with site and construction teams to resolve engineering challenges during project execution.
- Review contractor change requests and technical modifications.
- Support lender, investor, and independent engineer due diligence activities.
Process Improvement
- Identify design optimization and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Develop engineering standards, best practices, and internal procedures.
- Document and implement lessons learned from completed projects.
- Solve complex technical and cross-functional challenges.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience supporting renewable energy projects.
- 2+ years of experience in a Project Engineer role.
- Experience within utility-scale solar, battery storage, and/or wind projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience with PVsyst, PVCase, SAM, or similar solar modeling software.
- Experience reviewing civil, structural, and electrical design packages for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Work Environment & Travel
- Primarily office-based with periodic travel to project sites.
- Opportunity to support projects throughout North America during both development and construction phases.
