Air Quality & Noise Department Manager
About the Role
A respected environmental and civil engineering consulting firm is looking for a leader to build and run its air quality, noise, and vibration group in California. This is a player-coach position for someone who enjoys both the technical side and the commercial side, growing a book of business while staying hands-on with the science. You'll shape the direction of the practice, act as a go-to advisor for clients, and work closely with the CEQA and planning teams to deliver defensible environmental analyses on development, transportation, and infrastructure projects statewide.
Core Responsibilities
- Own the strategy and growth of the air quality and acoustics practice, from service positioning to team expansion.
- Win and manage work: develop new client relationships, respond to RFPs, and set scope and pricing for noise and air quality services.
- Act as senior technical lead on noise and vibration studies, while helping steer air quality and greenhouse gas work across project teams.
- Guide the preparation and review of environmental documentation and supporting technical reports tied to CEQA.
- Set quality standards and provide senior review across the group's deliverables.
- Build, mentor, and retain a strong technical bench, and represent the firm with agencies, clients, and at industry events.
What We're Looking For
- Roughly a decade or more of experience in noise, vibration, and acoustics work on California environmental projects, with comfort collaborating on air quality and GHG topics.
- A track record of growing work and managing client relationships, ideally in a practice-lead or seller-doer capacity.
- A degree in acoustics, engineering, environmental science, planning, or a related discipline; graduate degree a plus.
- Solid command of California environmental review requirements and standard analysis methods for noise and air quality.
- Familiarity with the modeling platforms and federal/state protocols commonly used for transportation noise and emissions analysis.
- Exposure to health risk assessment work and experience engaging regional air districts and state agencies.
