Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a Construction Engineer to join their Chicago-area transportation team. This position offers a unique blend of construction engineering, field inspection, and roadway design work, allowing professionals to gain exposure to projects from planning and design through construction. The successful candidate will play a key role supporting transportation and municipal infrastructure projects throughout the Chicagoland region.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) and support Resident Engineer activities on transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Perform construction inspection for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, county, and municipal projects.
- Monitor roadway, utility, stormwater, water main, and sanitary sewer construction activities.
- Review construction materials, quantities, testing results, and contractor compliance.
- Prepare daily reports, project documentation, quantity calculations, and as-built records.
- Assist with roadway, site development, drainage, utility, and transportation design projects.
- Support preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, permit applications, and engineering reports.
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, municipalities, and agency stakeholders throughout project delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
- 3+ years of experience in construction engineering, transportation, municipal, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting IDOT, Illinois Tollway, county, or municipal projects preferred.
- Assistant Resident Engineer experience strongly preferred.
- EIT certification preferred; PE license is a plus.
- Highway Technician certifications are highly desirable.
- Experience with MicroStation and transportation-related design software preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
