Role Overview
A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking an accomplished Corporate Safety Director to oversee safety strategy and performance across construction operations throughout New England.

This is a highly influential leadership position responsible for building a proactive safety culture, managing a regional safety organization, reducing operational risk, and ensuring consistent standards across multiple projects and states. The Corporate Safety Director will work closely with executive leadership, operations teams, Project Managers, and Superintendents to integrate safety into every stage of project planning and execution.

The ideal candidate combines executive-level leadership with a strong understanding of field operations and the credibility to influence construction means and methods, staffing, scheduling, training, and resource decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a regional team of safety managers and field safety professionals
• Establish and continuously improve companywide safety policies, standards, and initiatives
• Partner with executive and operational leadership to incorporate safety into business and project decisions
• Promote accountability for safety performance across all levels of the organization
• Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable state and local regulations
• Oversee safety performance across multiple heavy civil projects and operating regions
• Monitor key performance indicators, trends, and risk data to support executive decision-making
• Lead serious incident investigations, root-cause reviews, and corrective action planning
• Coordinate regulatory inspections, third-party audits, and internal compliance reviews
• Visit active jobsites and maintain a visible presence with field teams
• Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to identify hazards and implement practical controls
• Support preconstruction planning through project-specific risk assessments and safety plans
• Provide executive oversight of safety training, leadership development, and certification programs
• Establish clear safety expectations for project and field leadership
• Ensure employees and subcontractors maintain the required training, qualifications, and certifications
• Oversee safety communications, campaigns, and continuous-improvement initiatives
• Support incident reporting, claims management, documentation, and communication with relevant stakeholders
• Evaluate subcontractor and vendor safety performance and ensure compliance with project requirements

What They're Looking For

• 10+ years of progressive construction safety experience
• At least 6 years in a safety leadership, regional management, or corporate-level role
• Strong heavy civil construction background, including highways, bridges, marine work, excavation, earthwork, utilities, or comparable infrastructure projects
• Proven experience managing safety across multiple projects, offices, and states
• Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards and regional safety requirements
• Experience leading and developing a sizeable team of safety professionals
• Ability to communicate with credibility at the executive level while remaining closely engaged with field operations
• Strong understanding of incident investigation, root-cause analysis, claims, audits, and corrective action planning
• Ability to analyze safety metrics and translate findings into practical operational improvements
• CSP, CHST, or a comparable professional safety certification is strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred
