Role Overview
An established heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of competitive bids for complex transportation and infrastructure projects throughout New England.

This is a hands-on estimating position with responsibility for the entire bid process, including opportunity review, quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and supplier outreach, cost development, constructability analysis, bid strategy, and final submission.

The ideal candidate understands how major civil projects are built and can accurately evaluate labor, equipment, materials, production rates, subcontracted work, risk, and project-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead estimates from initial opportunity review through final bid submission
• Review plans, specifications, addenda, contract documents, and bid requirements
• Perform and oversee detailed quantity takeoffs for heavy civil scopes
• Develop complete cost estimates covering labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
• Determine construction means, methods, sequencing, crew composition, and production assumptions
• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to evaluate access, logistics, and project conditions
• Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, project risks, and pricing opportunities
• Develop preliminary schedules, workforce plans, and equipment requirements
• Participate in bid reviews and present pricing strategies to leadership
• Complete final bid forms and confirm all submission requirements are met
• Support project handoff to operations following award
• Maintain historical cost information and help improve estimating processes
• Mentor junior estimators and support the continued development of the estimating team

What They're Looking For

• Significant estimating experience in heavy civil, highway, bridge, rail, marine, or transportation infrastructure construction
• Proven ability to take ownership of large and technically complex bids
• Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means, methods, sequencing, and production rates
• Experience pricing self-performed labor, materials, and equipment
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents
• Proficiency with construction estimating and digital takeoff software
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
• Confident communication skills and the ability to work with leadership, operations, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, although equivalent industry experience will be considered
