DDC Startup Technician
About the Role
We're hiring a Controls Startup Technician to commission and start up building automation systems (BAS) on new construction and retrofit projects. You'll take the system from installed to fully working. That means checking wiring, programming and testing controllers, running point-to-point checkouts, and making sure HVAC equipment runs to the sequence of operations. You'll work with project managers, programmers, mechanical contractors and commissioning agents on commercial, healthcare, education and mission-critical projects, including data centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Start up and commission DDC controllers, field devices and networks on HVAC systems, including AHUs, RTUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps and cooling towers.
- Run point-to-point checkouts and functional performance tests against the design documents and sequences of operation.
- Download, configure and troubleshoot controller programs and graphics.
- Check terminations, wiring, sensors, actuators, valves and VFDs.
- Integrate third-party equipment over BACnet (MS/TP and IP), Modbus and LonWorks.
- Troubleshoot communication, hardware and programming problems on site.
- Support commissioning agents with functional testing and punch list items.
- Complete startup reports, checkout sheets and as-built documentation.
- Train building operators and facility staff on system operation at handover.
- Keep a professional, safety-first approach on active construction sites.
