About the Opportunity
Our client is a rapidly growing building automation and controls integrator delivering advanced solutions across commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities. They are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of sophisticated automation systems while supporting project execution and mentoring junior engineering staff.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced BAS professional who enjoys technical leadership, system architecture, and collaborating with project teams on complex HVAC and controls applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and engineering of HVAC and building automation control systems.
- Develop control schematics, network layouts, panel drawings, and wiring documentation.
- Interpret mechanical and electrical plans to create complete control system designs.
- Produce and review submittals, bill of materials (BOMs), and device specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes and standards.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering documentation and as-built drawings.
- Support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities as required.
- Develop sequences of operation, control narratives, and logic diagrams.
- Design BAS architectures utilizing BACnet, Modbus, and IP-based networks.
- Support control panel design, fabrication reviews, and testing activities.
- Evaluate new technologies and energy optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with software, operations, and project teams to ensure successful delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience within Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, industrial automation, or related engineering environments.
- Strong AutoCAD experience and ability to develop detailed engineering documentation.
- Experience with BAS communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of DDC systems, HVAC applications, controls design, and sequences of operation.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical, controls, and building system standards.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to industrial controls, PLCs, SCADA systems, or related automation platforms.
- Commissioning, startup, or field engineering experience.
- Leadership experience overseeing engineering deliverables or small project teams.
- Electrical system analysis or power distribution knowledge.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is advantageous.
