Position Summary
A well-established civil engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join its Columbus, Ohio office. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation and public infrastructure projects, including roadway improvements, municipal engineering initiatives, intersection upgrades, and corridor studies. The successful candidate will contribute to project delivery from concept development through final design while collaborating with clients, agencies, and internal project teams.
Responsibilities
- Prepare roadway, highway, and transportation design plans and construction documents.
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and technical report preparation.
- Develop roadway alignments, profiles, grading plans, and cross-sections.
- Coordinate utility relocations, drainage design, and right-of-way considerations.
- Assist with traffic studies, maintenance of traffic plans, and safety improvement projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, planners, and technicians throughout project development.
- Attend client meetings and coordinate with local municipalities, counties, and state agencies.
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, and quality control efforts.
- Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction support activities as needed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable design standards, regulations, and agency requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- 3+ years of transportation engineering experience preferred.
- Experience with roadway, municipal, and transportation infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Familiarity with ODOT design criteria, standards, and project development processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on ODOT projects.
- Municipal roadway and streetscape improvement experience.
- Knowledge of transportation planning and traffic engineering principles.
- Familiarity with grant-funded transportation projects and public-sector clients.
- Construction administration and field inspection experience.
- Experience coordinating with public agencies and utility providers.
