Mechanical Senior Project Manager

We are partnering with a highly respected mechanical contractor that has built its reputation over more than 30 years by delivering complex mechanical construction projects across the Minneapolis-St. Paul market.

Unlike many contractors focused on rapid expansion, this organisation prioritises sustainable growth, long-term relationships, and hiring exceptional people who align with its culture and values. Employee retention is exceptionally strong, and the company has developed a collaborative, family-oriented environment where individuals are trusted to make decisions, take ownership, and build lasting careers.

They are seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to join their team and play a key role in managing projects, developing client relationships, and contributing to the continued success of the business.

The Role

This is not a traditional Project Manager position.

The company is looking for a well-rounded construction professional who can wear multiple hats and take ownership throughout the project lifecycle. You'll have significant autonomy and the opportunity to influence both project delivery and business development activities.

Project Managers are expected to be involved in:

  • Estimating and preconstruction activities
  • Project planning and execution
  • Client relationship management
  • Business development and securing new work
  • Design-assist and design development discussions
  • Financial oversight and project profitability
  • Coordination with field operations and subcontractors

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a smaller, highly capable environment where contributions have a direct impact on the success of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Prepare and review estimates, budgets, and cost forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, engineers, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in design development and value engineering discussions.
  • Oversee project financial performance, scheduling, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Lead project meetings and coordinate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with field teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for repeat business and future project work.
  • Maintain accountability for overall project success, client satisfaction, and profitability.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience

  • Commercial mechanical construction project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience managing project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Solid understanding of estimating and preconstruction processes.

Ideal Profile

The successful candidate will likely demonstrate:

  • Stable career history with long-term tenure at previous employers.
  • Strong commercial mechanical contracting experience.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and ownership mentality.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A desire to be part of a company for the long term.
  • High levels of accountability and professionalism.

This company places a significant emphasis on cultural fit and is specifically seeking individuals who value stability, teamwork, and long-term career growth.

Projects & Markets

Projects are primarily located throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area and include:

  • Healthcare facilities and hospitals
  • High-tech manufacturing facilities
  • Commercial buildings
  • Mechanical retrofits and upgrades
  • Class A office renovation projects

Their strongest work comes from technically challenging projects where expertise, problem-solving ability, and client relationships make the difference.

  • Mid-Level Project Manager: $85,000 - $110,000
  • Senior Project Manager: $100,000 - $130,000+

  • Full transparency into bonus calculations
  • Monthly performance scorecards
