Project Director - Water Infrastructure

The Opportunity

An established Design & Construct contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Project Director to support a significant and growing pipeline of major water infrastructure projects.

This is a senior delivery leadership position requiring someone who has built their career on the contractor side and understands how to take full ownership of complex projects from mobilisation through to commissioning and completion.

The successful candidate will have responsibility across the commercial, contractual and operational performance of major projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, profitably and in line with programme commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for major water infrastructure projects.
  • Lead projects across the full lifecycle, from mobilisation and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Take ownership of project commercial and contractual performance, including cost, forecasting, variations, claims and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, ensuring key milestones and delivery commitments are achieved.
  • Lead procurement strategy and the engagement and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Proactively identify and manage project risks, commercial exposure and delivery challenges.
  • Work closely with engineering, construction and commercial teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and key project stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and direction to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality and commercial discipline throughout project delivery.
  • Support senior management with project reporting, forecasting and strategic decision-making.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Significant experience delivering major infrastructure projects within a contractor or D&C environment.
  • Strong experience within the water, wastewater or broader infrastructure sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex projects with substantial commercial and contractual responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement, subcontractor management, project controls and commercial risk.
  • Experience managing project budgets, cost forecasting, programme and overall project performance.
  • The ability to step into a senior project leadership position and operate with a high level of autonomy.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, delivery partners and internal leadership teams.
  • A relevant engineering, construction management or associated technical qualification would be highly regarded.
