Role Overview
A well-established construction firm with a long-standing presence in the Massachusetts market is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its estimating and preconstruction team. This is a hands-on estimating role focused on leading bids from takeoff through submission, with direct involvement in quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor and vendor outreach, and bid review.

The company performs a mix of public infrastructure, sitework, utilities, and water/wastewater-related construction. This is a strong opportunity for an estimator who enjoys detailed, technical work and wants to play a key role in helping the business pursue and win meaningful projects.

This role is ideal for someone who can read plans, understand how work is built, price accurately, and work closely with leadership through the bid process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead construction estimates from initial review through final bid submission
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs across civil, structural, architectural, site, and utility scopes
  • Review plans and specifications to identify scope, risk, exclusions, and opportunities
  • Solicit, review, and level pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
  • Prepare and review bid forms for public infrastructure and municipal projects
  • Support lump sum and unit price bidding processes
  • Participate in preconstruction planning and project handoff to operations
  • Work directly with leadership to review bid strategy, pricing, and final submissions
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and deadlines

What They're Looking For

  • 10+ years of estimating experience in civil construction, sitework, utilities, or water/wastewater construction
  • Strong experience with self-performed site and utility work is highly preferred
  • Experience completing lump sum and unit price bids
  • Strong understanding of public bidding requirements and bid forms
  • Ability to read plans and specifications and visualize how the work will be built
  • Proficiency with on-screen takeoff and estimating software such as ProEst, InSite, or similar platforms
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify cost impacts early
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing bid deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with subcontractors, vendors, and internal leadership
  • Experience estimating for a union contractor is a plus
  • Existing subcontractor and vendor relationships are a plus

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Opportunity to take ownership of meaningful bids and directly influence company growth
  • Stable contractor with a strong reputation and long history in the region
  • Direct access to leadership and decision-makers
  • Diverse project mix across sitework, utilities, public infrastructure, and water/wastewater work
  • Strong compensation for an experienced estimator who can bring accuracy, discipline, and practical construction knowledge
  • Long-term opportunity for someone who wants to be a key part of a growing preconstruction team
