As a Grid Interconnection Consultant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of electric power transmission systems. You will work with a team of experts to analyze, design, and optimize the transmission networks of our clients, which may include utility companies, renewable energy developers, and governmental organizations. Key Responsibilities:
Transmission Network Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of electric power transmission networks, including load flow studies, transient stability analyses, and contingency assessments to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement.
Planning and Optimization: Develop transmission system expansion plans, considering factors such as load growth, generation capacity, and regulatory requirements. Optimize transmission grid performance by recommending upgrades, reinforcements, and asset additions.
Interconnection Studies: Perform interconnection studies for new generation projects, ensuring their seamless integration into the existing transmission system. Evaluate the impact of renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar, on transmission grid stability.
Modeling and Simulation: Utilize advanced software tools and modeling techniques to simulate transmission system behavior under various operating conditions. Validate models through field data and real-time measurements.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with regional and national regulations related to transmission planning and ensure client projects comply with all applicable standards and requirements.
Technical Documentation: Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and documentation for clients and regulatory bodies. Clearly communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Client Collaboration: Collaborate with clients to understand their specific needs and objectives. Provide technical guidance and recommendations to support their transmission infrastructure decisions.
Project Management: Manage and oversee transmission planning projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with transmission system projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize the impact on project timelines and budgets.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in transmission planning. Pursue professional development opportunities and certifications to enhance expertise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility to obtain one.
- Strong knowledge of power system analysis software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, or PowerWorld.
- Proficiency in using data analysis and simulation tools like MATLAB, Python, or similar.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to transmission planning.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Project management experience is a plus.
- Commitment to safety and environmental considerations in transmission planning.
