Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced BAS Controls Operations Manager to lead the execution and operational performance of our Building Automation business. This individual will be responsible for overseeing project delivery, service operations, team development, client relationships, operational efficiency, and financial performance across a portfolio of building automation projects and service agreements.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in Building Automation Systems, proven leadership experience, and a track record of successfully managing project teams, service personnel, and customer relationships. Experience with platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Distech, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Schneider EcoStruxure, Automated Logic, or similar DDC systems is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Lead daily operations of the BAS division including project execution, service delivery, engineering, commissioning, and field operations.
Manage project and service managers to ensure successful execution of all contracts.
Develop and implement operational processes, standards, and best practices.
Monitor resource utilization and staffing levels across the business.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to client expectations.
Financial Management
Maintain responsibility for departmental P&L performance.
Review project financials, change orders, forecasts, labor utilization, and gross margin performance.
Develop annual budgets and operational forecasts.
Drive profitability through operational efficiency and strategic resource allocation.
Assist leadership with business planning and growth initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, and develop project managers, controls engineers, technicians, programmers, and commissioning specialists.
Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions.
Build career development plans and training programs for technical staff.
Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
Project & Service Oversight
Oversee a portfolio of new construction, retrofit, integration, and service projects.
Review project schedules, manpower plans, budgets, and risk assessments.
Support escalation of technical and operational issues.
Ensure consistent project delivery standards across all teams.
Partner with service leadership to maximize customer retention and service contract growth.
Customer & Business Development
Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
Participate in key customer meetings and executive reviews.
Support sales teams during project pursuits and strategic opportunities.
Assist with project estimating, operational reviews, and transition of new work into execution.
Act as an executive sponsor for major accounts.
Technical Oversight
Provide leadership on BAS technologies, controls strategies, networking, integration, and commissioning practices.
Ensure compliance with owner specifications, sequences of operation, and industry standards.
Support complex troubleshooting and operational challenges when required.
Maintain awareness of emerging smart building and energy management technologies.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, HVAC, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
8+ years of Building Automation or HVAC Controls experience.
3+ years of leadership experience managing teams, projects, or operations.
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building controls, and DDC platforms.
Proven experience managing project financials, labor planning, and operational performance.
Strong customer-facing and leadership skills.
Experience leading multiple concurrent projects and service operations
