Principal Environmental Consultant
Location: Nashville, TN
A well-established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Principal-level leader to join its growing Southeast team. This is a rare opportunity to step into a role designed as a direct track to Practice Leader - with clear runway to shape the direction, growth, and culture of the Southeast Environmental Practice.
The right person will bring a strong balance of technical excellence, project leadership, and client engagement. You'll oversee complex environmental projects, provide QA/QC across deliverables, and mentor a team of 6-10 junior staff, while also maintaining trusted relationships with existing clients and helping to grow the practice over time.
Responsibilities
- Manage complex environmental projects - scope, schedule, and budget oversight
- Strengthen and manage existing client relationships while contributing to new business development
- Serve as regulatory liaison with agencies including TDEC, ADEM, MDEQ, GAEPD, and USEPA
- Oversee contaminated site investigations, remediation, and brownfield redevelopment
- Guide environmental compliance efforts, including permitting, spill response planning, and multi-media monitoring
- Direct geochemical evaluations of groundwater, surface water, and soils - including interpretation of analytical data and contaminant fate and transport
- Oversee groundwater compliance evaluations and statistical analyses using industry-standard tools
- Recruit, mentor, and develop technical and PM staff to support practice growth
- Review and approve technical reports, regulatory submittals, and client deliverables
- Manage project financial performance - budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or closely related field
- Master's degree required
- Minimum 20 years of environmental consulting experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity
- Current Tennessee licensure as P.E., P.G., C.I.H., or QEP
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and cost control
- Strong background preparing and submitting regulatory documentation and technical reports
- Proven leadership experience supervising and developing technical and administrative staff
- Established relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
- Experience building on and expanding a client base within the environmental practice
