The Opportunity
A multidisciplinary environmental and infrastructure consulting firm is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of public- and private-sector projects.
This senior-level position combines hands-on engineering, project leadership, construction support, client engagement, staff development, and contributions to business growth. The successful candidate will work from the Lakewood office and bring strong knowledge of Colorado engineering practice and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical investigations, analyses, design activities, and technical recommendations for building and infrastructure assignments.
- Provide senior technical guidance while ensuring work aligns with applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
- Direct subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing, instrumentation monitoring, data interpretation, and engineering analysis.
- Evaluate foundations, earthwork, slope stability, seepage, lateral earth pressures, seismic conditions, and related geotechnical considerations.
- Support projects involving commercial and residential buildings, bridges, highways, rail, airports, pipelines, levees, basins, and other civil infrastructure.
- Oversee geotechnical services during construction, including shallow foundations, drilled shafts, driven piles, grading, utility trenching, and earthwork operations.
- Prepare and review technical reports, recommendations, calculations, and other project deliverables.
- Coordinate with clients, project teams, stakeholders, contractors, and public agencies to resolve technical issues.
- Build durable client relationships and contribute to proposals, pursuits, and broader business-development efforts.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their technical and professional development.
- Help maintain the group's quality procedures and relevant accreditations, while remaining engaged with the geotechnical engineering profession.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- At least 10 years of professional geotechnical engineering experience.
- Active Professional Engineer license in Colorado.
- Colorado-based experience and familiarity with local engineering practices.
- Demonstrated experience in geotechnical design and analysis, field investigations, and construction-phase supervision.
- Strong working knowledge of geotechnical engineering fundamentals, soil and rock mechanics, foundations, earthwork, and groundwater conditions.
- Experience overseeing foundation construction and earthwork observation.
- Strong written, verbal, client-facing, and team leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree with a geotechnical engineering focus.
- Knowledge of earthquake engineering, pavement engineering, and hydrogeology.
- Experience with slope-stability software, pile-modeling applications, and site-response analysis tools.
- Familiarity with Colorado Department of Transportation standards, guidelines, and deliverables.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated base salary range is $150,000 - $200,000 annually, with final compensation determined by the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
