Senior Structural Project Manager

Mission Critical Buildings | Austin, Texas

A well-established structural engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Structural Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex building projects from its Austin office.

Data centers are the firm's primary area of growth, creating a strong pipeline of technically demanding work across the United States. The wider buildings practice also supports projects across advanced manufacturing, aviation, healthcare, education, commercial and institutional markets.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of major projects, lead structural teams and work directly with clients, architects and contractors. It would suit an experienced engineer who wants greater responsibility for project delivery, client relationships and team development.

The Opportunity

Data center projects will form the central focus of the position. These facilities present structural challenges involving heavy equipment loads, vibration and serviceability criteria, enhanced reliability requirements, accelerated schedules and extensive multidisciplinary coordination.

Alongside mission critical work, you may also support projects across other complex building sectors. This provides the growth potential of the digital infrastructure market within a broader and more diversified structural practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading structural projects through design, documentation and construction
  • Managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, resources and financial performance
  • Overseeing structural analysis, system selection and technical documentation
  • Coordinating with architectural, MEP, civil and specialist disciplines
  • Maintaining technical quality and compliance with applicable codes
  • Acting as a primary contact for clients and project partners
  • Presenting technical recommendations and resolving project challenges
  • Supporting construction administration, including RFIs, submittals and site observations
  • Directing, mentoring and developing structural engineers
  • Contributing to proposals, project interviews and delivery improvements

Project Exposure

The position will provide experience across:

  • Data centers and mission critical facilities
  • Advanced manufacturing and industrial buildings
  • Aviation and transportation facilities
  • Healthcare and institutional developments
  • Education projects
  • Commercial buildings and mixed-use developments

Data centers will remain the priority, but the wider portfolio gives engineers the opportunity to develop across multiple technically demanding environments.

What You Bring

You will already be comfortable leading complex structural projects and balancing technical, commercial and client responsibilities.

Direct data center experience would be valuable, but it is not the only relevant background. Engineers from healthcare, aviation, advanced manufacturing, industrial or other highly coordinated building sectors may also be considered.

You will bring:

  • A master's degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited university
  • An active Professional Engineer license
  • At least six years of structural building design experience
  • At least two years of project or team leadership experience
  • Strong design experience across concrete, steel, masonry and wood structures
  • Advanced knowledge of structural codes and design standards
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, resources and technical quality
  • Confidence working directly with clients, architects, contractors and consultants
  • Experience using structural analysis, BIM and project collaboration software
  • A genuine interest in mentoring engineers and improving project delivery

Why Consider It?

  • Data centers sit at the centre of the firm's continued growth
  • Strong pipeline of complex building projects
  • Exposure to major owners, architects and contractors
  • Variety beyond mission critical through a diversified buildings portfolio
  • Opportunity to lead projects from planning through construction
  • Direct involvement in client relationships and commercial decisions
  • Ability to mentor engineers and influence project delivery
  • Competitive compensation and performance-related bonus
  • Clear potential to progress into broader leadership

This opportunity will suit an experienced structural engineer who wants more ownership of projects, clients and people while building a career in one of the strongest growth markets within the buildings industry.
