Working Arrangement: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-time
Sector: Buildings
The Opportunity
An established multidisciplinary design and engineering consultancy is looking to add a licensed structural engineer to its growing Texas practice.
This position offers a mix of technical engineering, project leadership, client interaction, and team development. You will lead building projects from early planning through construction while remaining actively involved in structural analysis, design decisions, document review, and field-related problem-solving.
The firm is open to candidates who are already managing projects, as well as technically strong structural engineers ready to take on broader responsibility. The priority is finding someone with sound engineering judgment, strong communication skills, and experience delivering building projects within a collaborative consulting environment.
The role can be based in either Houston or Austin.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead structural projects from initial planning through design and construction
- Coordinate directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines
- Manage project scope, schedules, fees, resources, and deliverables
- Perform and review structural analysis and design
- Guide the preparation of coordinated construction documents
- Review engineering calculations, drawings, details, and technical specifications
- Provide direction to developing engineers and design staff
- Identify technical, commercial, or scheduling risks before they affect delivery
- Support construction-phase services and respond to field-related questions
- Review contractor submissions and help resolve design or constructability issues
- Maintain consistent communication with clients throughout each assignment
- Contribute to quality-control reviews and internal technical standards
- Remain hands-on with engineering where project complexity or team workload requires it
Project Exposure
The team works across a varied portfolio of new-build, renovation, expansion, and reuse projects.
Assignments may include:
- Commercial buildings
- Institutional and public facilities
- Residential and mixed-use developments
- Industrial and specialist facilities
- Building additions and alterations
- Existing-structure evaluations
- Complex or unusual structural systems
Projects involve a range of structural materials and require close coordination with architects, contractors, owners, and other design disciplines.
What They Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Active Professional Engineer license
- Around 10 or more years of building structural engineering experience
- Experience delivering projects through design, documentation, and construction
- Strong knowledge of structural steel and reinforced concrete
- Broader exposure to masonry, timber, or cold-formed framing is beneficial
- Familiarity with current US building codes and structural design standards
- Experience working with commonly used structural analysis and design software
- Ability to review and coordinate multidisciplinary construction documents
- Previous construction administration or site-support experience
- Confidence communicating with clients and other project stakeholders
- Ability to organize project teams and delegate work effectively
- Strong technical judgment and attention to quality
- Willingness to work within a hybrid office environment
Who This Could Suit
This could be a strong next step if you are:
- A Structural Project Manager who still wants meaningful technical involvement

- An experienced building engineer looking for a more varied portfolio
- A technically focused P.E. who enjoys mentoring junior engineers
- Interested in joining a close local team with access to wider multidisciplinary resources
- Looking for a position combining engineering, project delivery, and career progression
