The client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic team in the thriving data center industry in Singapore. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge mechanical systems and infrastructure within their data center facilities. Your expertise will contribute to the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of our data center operations, ensuring optimal performance and scalability to meet the evolving demands of their clients.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design and engineering of mechanical systems for data center projects, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), cooling systems, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, electrical engineers, project managers, and contractors, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with overall facility design and construction.
- Conduct comprehensive analyses and simulations to optimize mechanical system performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability, considering factors such as thermal management, airflow dynamics, and environmental impact.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous learning within the mechanical engineering team.
- Evaluate new technologies, products, and industry trends related to mechanical systems for data centers, and make recommendations for their implementation to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
- Develop and maintain design standards, specifications, and best practices for mechanical systems in accordance with industry regulations, codes, and client requirements.
- Oversee the commissioning, testing, and validation of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with facility operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues, optimize system performance, and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize uptime.
- Support business development activities by providing technical expertise and participating in client meetings, presentations, and proposals for new data center projects.
- Stay abreast of advancements in mechanical engineering, data center technology, and industry standards through continuous education, professional development, and participation in relevant conferences and forums.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC, cooling systems, and plumbing design for large-scale commercial or industrial facilities, preferably data centers.
- Proven track record of leading and managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in the design, development, and delivery of complex mechanical systems projects on schedule and within budget.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, codes, standards, and practices relevant to data center design and construction, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and SMACNA.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools for 2D/3D modeling, simulation, and analysis, such as AutoCAD, Revit, HVAC load calculation software, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct feasibility studies, perform risk assessments, and develop innovative solutions to optimize mechanical system performance and reliability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients to achieve project objectives and deliverables.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail in all aspects of work. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of sustainability principles and green building practices related to mechanical engineering, including energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and LEED certification, is desirable.
- Flexibility to travel as needed for project meetings, site visits, and client engagements within Singapore and occasionally internationally.
