We have a current opportunity for a Substation Engineer on a permanent basis. Our Houston, Texas office location is preferred, however remote working is negotiable depending on individual circumstances. Occasional travel is required with this positions for team meetings and/or site visits.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the creation of detailed engineering designs for electrical substations in solar power plants, ensuring adherence to industry standards and project requirements.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate substations with other solar plant components.
- Assist in specifying and selecting substation equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
- Partner with our Procurement and Supply Chain Teams to ensure technical accuracy and the timely, cost-effective procurement of necessary equipment.
- Supervise the commissioning of electrical substations, including testing and validating equipment and systems.
- Ensure all substation activities comply with relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and thorough documentation for substation design, specifications, and record drawings.
- Train O&M teams on substation equipment and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors to meet project objectives.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, offering technical expertise and project updates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Engineering
- Professional Engineer License Preferred
- In-depth knowledge of substation/high-voltage design and equipment specifications
- Working knowledge of relevant electrical codes & standards
- Must have the ability to lead execution of work and be able to work in a collaborative team environment
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
