We are seeking a skilled and experienced Transmission Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Transmission Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and optimizing transmission systems to ensure efficient and reliable electricity delivery. Your expertise will be crucial in developing transmission expansion plans, conducting feasibility studies, and assessing the impact of new generation sources on the grid. Your work will contribute to maintaining the integrity of our transmission infrastructure and supporting the growth of our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Transmission System Analysis: Perform detailed analysis of the transmission system, including load flow studies, short circuit studies, stability studies, voltage profile analysis, and reactive power optimization. Identify system limitations, bottlenecks, and areas requiring expansion or reinforcement.
Transmission Planning: Develop long-term transmission expansion plans and strategies to meet the projected load growth and incorporate renewable energy integration. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and operational objectives.
Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies for proposed transmission projects, considering factors such as technical viability, economic viability, environmental impact, and public acceptance. Assess alternative solutions and recommend the most suitable options based on cost-effectiveness, reliability, and grid stability.
Grid Integration of Renewables: Assess the impact of integrating renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, into the transmission system. Identify technical challenges and propose solutions for effective integration, considering aspects like grid codes, power quality, and system stability.
Transmission System Modeling: Develop and maintain accurate transmission system models using specialized software tools. Ensure models are up-to-date, reflect network changes, and can be used for accurate system analysis and planning.
Network Studies: Conduct comprehensive network studies to evaluate system performance, identify potential issues, and propose mitigation measures. Evaluate the impact of contingencies, equipment outages, and system disturbances on grid operations.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with relevant transmission planning regulations, standards, and industry practices. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements in transmission system planning and operational activities.
Project Management: Lead or participate in transmission-related projects, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. Provide technical guidance and support to project teams as required.
Technical Reports and Presentations: Prepare technical reports, studies, and presentations to communicate transmission planning analyses, findings, and recommendations to internal and external audiences, including management, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in transmission planning. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative approaches to enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in transmission system planning, preferably within the power utility industry.
- In-depth knowledge of power systems, transmission networks, and grid operations.
- Proficiency in using power system analysis software tools (e.g., PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSSE).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data.
- Familiarity with renewable energy integration, grid codes, and power quality standards.
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical information effectively.
- Project management abilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and transmission planning standards.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in analysis and documentation.
Join our team as a Transmission Planning Engineer and contribute to shaping the future of our transmission infrastructure. Together, we will work towards delivering reliable and sustainable electricity to our customers while promoting a greener and more resilient energy system.
