A growing environmental consulting firm is seeking an Assistant Environmental Manager to support environmental investigation, remediation, compliance, and natural resource projects throughout the Midwest. This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional looking to combine project management, client development, technical leadership, and staff mentoring within a collaborative consulting environment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental contamination assessment, compliance programs, project delivery, and client management, with the ability to lead projects while contributing to business growth.
Responsibilities
Project Management & Client Development
Manage environmental projects from planning through completion, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are achieved
Develop and maintain client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional services
Support proposal preparation, project scoping, budgeting, and contract administration
Coordinate project teams, subcontractors, laboratories, and regulatory stakeholders
Track project performance, financial metrics, invoicing, and project closeout activities
Environmental Investigation & Compliance
Lead soil, groundwater, surface water, and environmental sampling programs
Manage Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
Support environmental permitting, compliance, and contamination management projects
Oversee environmental investigations involving spills, impacted soils, groundwater contamination, and remediation activities
Coordinate environmental field programs and ensure adherence to safety protocols
Technical Leadership
Review technical reports, work products, and environmental deliverables
Provide technical guidance to project teams and junior staff
Coordinate with regulatory agencies and stakeholders throughout project execution
Assist with quality assurance and quality control reviews
Team Leadership
Mentor environmental professionals and support career development initiatives
Assist with workload management, recruiting, and staff development efforts
Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and client-oriented work environment
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field
8-10+ years of environmental consulting experience
Experience with environmental investigations, remediation, compliance, and permitting projects
Strong project management experience including budgets, schedules, and client management
Experience with Phase I and Phase II ESAs
Knowledge of soil and groundwater investigations, environmental regulations, and remediation practices
Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
Professional licensure or certification (PG, PE, PMP, or similar) preferred
40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed
