About the Opportunity
A nationally recognized employee-owned general contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent 3 to join its growing Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences Construction team. This role offers the opportunity to lead highly technical projects involving pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, cGMP environments, clean rooms, laboratories, research facilities, process equipment installation, and critical utility infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing field operations on complex pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, or highly regulated healthcare projects where quality, safety, and commissioning requirements are critical to project success.
Position Summary
The Superintendent 3 will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of project execution, including safety, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, quality control, logistics, and client relations. This individual will lead field operations while working closely with project management, owners, engineers, architects, equipment vendors, and trade partners to ensure successful project delivery.
This role will support the planning, installation, and commissioning of pharmaceutical process equipment, clean utilities, laboratory systems, and highly specialized building infrastructure within regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture across all project activities
- Manage daily field operations, subcontractors, and trade coordination
- Develop and maintain project schedules and sequencing plans
- Coordinate procurement, delivery, rigging, installation, and startup of manufacturing and process equipment
- Oversee quality control, inspections, and project documentation
- Conduct daily planning meetings, subcontractor meetings, and owner meetings
- Manage site logistics, manpower planning, and workflow coordination
- Partner with project management to identify and resolve schedule, budget, and operational challenges
- Support constructability reviews and preconstruction planning efforts
- Coordinate with engineers, equipment vendors, commissioning teams, and specialty contractors throughout equipment installation and validation activities
- Drive project closeout, turnover, punch list, and commissioning support efforts
Specialized Responsibilities
- Lead planning and execution of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment installations
- Coordinate critical process systems including clean utilities, purified water, WFI, compressed gases, and HVAC infrastructure
- Support cGMP-compliant construction activities and documentation requirements
- Develop installation sequencing and equipment integration plans for manufacturing and laboratory environments
- Support cleanroom construction, startup, qualification, and commissioning activities
- Partner with VDC and project teams to develop equipment move-in, rigging, and installation strategies
- Resolve technical and coordination challenges impacting production readiness and facility startup
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years of commercial construction experience
- 5+ years of superintendent or field leadership experience
- Experience managing multiple trade partners and subcontractors
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling and field operations
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Experience delivering pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, clean room, semiconductor, laboratory, or advanced manufacturing projects
- Experience coordinating complex MEP and process utility systems
- Familiarity with cGMP environments and commissioning processes
- Lean construction experience
- Knowledge of qualification, validation, and turnover procedures
