About the Opportunity
Our client is a leading engineering and consulting organization supporting critical power infrastructure projects across the United States. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Substation Physical Design Engineer to join their expanding Power Delivery team. This is a fully remote opportunity offering involvement in utility, renewable energy, transmission, distribution, and mission-critical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop physical designs for high-voltage substations from conceptual engineering through detailed design and construction support.
- Prepare substation layouts, plans, sections, equipment arrangements, conduit systems, grounding plans, and cable routing drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations and studies related to substation physical design.
- Coordinate closely with Protection & Control, Civil/Structural, Transmission Line, and Project Management teams.
- Support equipment selection and specification development for substation projects.
- Review drawings, designs, and calculations for quality and compliance with client and industry standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Participate in client meetings and collaborate with utility, renewable energy, and industrial customers.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in substation physical design engineering within utility, consulting, EPC, or power delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of substation layout design, grounding systems, equipment arrangement, and construction documentation.
- Familiarity with transmission and distribution substation projects.
- Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of industry standards, utility specifications, and engineering best practices.
- Strong communication and project coordination skills.
